Terms of Service
Thank you for booking with Shropshire Raft Tours. We hope you enjoy your trip and visit us again. We provide group rates for 16 or more passengers.
Meeting Point – All trips
Please meet us at our booking kiosk located in The Wharfage car park to the right of the Ironbridge Information Centre (TF8 7NH).
Scenic float tours – non – hire
Bring casual clothing and sensible footwear (no sandals, flip flops nor wellington boots). Be aware we have a 2 minute walk to the launch site and a 3 minute walk to the minibus at the end of the trip. The raft guide can assist you on each end of the trip embarking and disembarking the raft. English weather can change so dress accordingly. We operate rain or shine. Each raft is guided by a British Canoe Union trained raft guide or Scottish rafting Association raft guide. Each person has a floatation device (buoyancy aid/life jacket) provided. Souvenir photographs will be taken during your trip and emailed to you free of charge. This is a 1.2 mile trip and powered by oars.
By checking the box at the bottom of the online booking or signing a hard copy (‘I have read and agreed to the terms of service’) you can advance your booking, and you agree to yourself, your son/daughter or child in your care and any other members of your group being photographed during a Shropshire Raft Tours trip/activity. The image may feature on Shropshire Raft Tours website, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram account and will be emailed to you at the end of your guided trip.
Cancellations – All trips
To cancel a raft trip or hire of mini-raft, mega sup, canoe, kayak or bike you will need 5 full working days before your booked trip time for cancellation to be permitted for a full refund for groups under 10 in number. For groups 10 and above you will need one full calendar month to cancel. Any cancellation made within 5 working days the full fee of the booking is payable by the person who booked with no refund given.
When booking please understand we cannot control the weather and river levels. Therefore if we cannot run your trip for any reason, we will offer you an alternative date. If a further enforced period of lockdown should occur as during the recent Covid-19 pandemic, you will be offered an alternative date or the booking will be held on our records until such time that a suitable new date can be arranged.
Statement of Risk
Shropshire Raft Tours accepts its’ responsibility to make its’ scenic float tours and activity hire as safe as is reasonably practicable. However, raft trips, canoe, kayak, mini-raft, Mega SUP and bike hire are inherently hazardous and cannot be completely risk free, however hard we try. Accidents can happen without contributory negligence from the company or its staff. Shropshire Raft Tours can accept no responsibility for loss or damage to personal property or personal injury not arising as a result of their own act or default.
Due to the recent Covid-19 pandemic extra measures have been put in place to minimise risk of infection including increased cleaning and sanitising of boats, helmets, buoyancy aids, paddles, dry bags, bikes, vehicles and premises. Staff are required to wear gloves and masks where deemed necessary. Customer ID will be retained in a sealed envelope for the duration of hire and handled in a responsible manner at all times. Hand sanitiser will be made available to all customers, however we recommend you also bring your own masks and gloves for use, especially when travelling in a vehicle.
As parent, guardian or group leader for children in your care on this trip, you have booked, you agree to participate in and accept the information in the ‘Statement of Risk’ and ‘Photograph Service’ above.
Please make your raft guide aware of any medical conditions, recent illnesses, allergies, surgery, pregnancy or other information of your family or group members.
Rental agreement of 10ft mini-rafts, canoe, kayak, Mega SUPs and bike hire
I agree to the following terms and conditions of the hiring agreement.
I accept that SHROPSHIRE RAFT TOURS LTD can accept no liability for any activity undertaken by me as the hirer, nor can it be held liable for any injury, loss, or damage either to the hirer or any third party. As group leader responsible for booking I am ticking to accept the policies contained in this waiver for and on behalf of all members of my party.
SHROPSHIRE RAFT TOURS LTD is not responsible for the use of the equipment. We only provide equipment to be used under the skills and abilities of the hirer, we require no proof of ability and offer no advice or instruction in the use of the equipment and how they are to be used.
The hirer acknowledges that they are responsible for their own safety and that of their group when hiring equipment, which involves inherent risk.
I agree to return the items on the stated day and time in the condition in which I received them. Any damaged equipment will be charged for at full retail price for replacement or repair if deemed appropriate, regardless of how damage was caused from your credit/debit card.
I agree to not leave the canoe/kayak/SUP/mini-raft/bike unattended at any time. If the canoe/kayak/SUP/mini-raft/bike is not returned we are at liberty to claim the full cost of the canoe/kayak/SUP/mini-raft/bike from your credit/debit card.
SHROPSHIRE RAFT TOURS LTD acts in good will when hiring out equipment and as such expects the same from the hirer. We reserve the right to withdraw and collect our equipment at any point and for any reason during a hire period.
The hirer is satisfied with the serviceable condition of the equipment. No instruction or advice has been sought or given from SHROPSHIRE RAFT TOURS LTD on the use or location best suited to the hirer’s group.
Cash can be paid on the day to book but we cannot reserve seats/boats/bikes in advance without payment. In the event of non return/damage of any equipment the hirers credit/debit card will be charged for the full amount of any equipment lost/damaged.
If canoe/kayak/SUP/mini-raft/bike are returned later than the stipulated return time, SHROPSHIRE RAFT TOURS LTD reserves the right to charge your debit/credit card £10 per extra hour (even if you are over by 5 minutes on that hour).
It is your responsibility to ensure that you have suitable insurance cover at all times during your period of hire.
Canoe/Kayak/Mega SUP/Mini-Raft Terms and Conditions
We will not allow any trips to proceed when severe conditions are occurring or expected. We run rain or shine but if heavy rainfall occurs over the days leading up to your trip date this can affect the river levels especially rainfall over the Welsh mountains some two days before departure. If an alternative vessel (mini-raft) is deemed necessary for safety reasons, we will provide and give you as much notice as possible that there has been a change from canoe/kayak to mini-raft.
Maximum weight per canoe or double kayak is 35 stone (222kg). Maximum weight for mini-raft is 70 stone (444kg). Maximum weight for Mega-SUP is 99 stone (630kg). Children under the age of 4 years are not allowed in canoes, kayaks, mini-rafts. Mega SUPs minimum age is on a case by case basis but please check with SHROPSHIRE RAFT TOURS LTD first. Children under the age of 10 years are not allowed in mini-rafts through the rapids. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Minimum age to hire is 18. Children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by an adult on a one to one basis for water activities. Participants must be able to swim a minimum of 25 metres. Anyone not able to swim this distance must be accompanied by an adult who can.
Maximum number of passengers on the 17ft Stand up paddle boards (SUPs) is 8 adults.
Maximum number of passengers on the 10ft mini-rafts is 5 adults.
No fishing is allowed unless you have the appropriate permit to fish on the stretch of the river your journey takes you on and a National rod license.
Buoyancy Aids must be worn at all times whilst you are canoeing, kayaking, mini-rafting and in our Mega SUPs. Helmets must be worn on the Mega SUPs at all times. Helmets must be worn at all times whilst on the mini-raft little rapid run. Smoking is not permitted whilst wearing your buoyancy aid or sitting/standing on our canoes/kayaks/SUPs/mini-rafts. Alcohol must not be consumed prior or during your trip. Anyone found under the influence of alcohol or any other substances will not be permitted to hire or participate in the event. We do not allow alcohol to be taken on the river and have the right to confiscate it until you return.
You should be aware that any dry bags supplied by us are not guaranteed to be waterproof. Therefore you should not rely on the dry bags we supply to keep your property dry and you accept you are taking your personal property onto the river at your own risk.
Participants must be considerate to other river users.
Participants are responsible for ensuring they have the correct clothing and are fit enough to complete any trip comfortably. As per the countryside code please protect the countryside and wildlife by not leaving rubbish on the river-banks or by dropping it in the river. Bring it back with you and we will dispose of it for you.
Dogs are welcome on river trips although buoyancy aids will not be provided. However under no circumstances are they to be leashed in the canoe/kayak/SUP/mini-raft. Dogs are not allowed in the mini-raft during the little rapid run.
Bike Hire Terms and Conditions
The hirer acknowledges that cycling on a public highway or cycle route carries its own risks, and you have made your booking on the basis that you/your group undertake the hire at your own risk and you/your group are responsible for their own safety when hiring equipment, which involves inherent risk.
You are responsible for ensuring that you are a competent cyclist and physically fit enough to undertake cycling any distance using the cycle(s) you have booked and that your eyesight is up to a good standard. We do not accept any responsibility for your failure to complete your hire period due to lack of fitness, illness or injury.
SHROPSHIRE RAFT TOURS LTD cannot accept any responsibility for delays or changes to your period of hire due to weather or other factors outside our control.
The hirer agrees to pay on demand all fines and court costs including administrative fees for violations of local bylaws and all other legal violations assessed against the bike and hirer during the hire period.
It is the responsibility of the hirer to ensure that the bicycle and/or other equipment is in proper working order before the hire takes place; this includes brakes, steering, tyres, drive shaft including pedals. If any problems are noticed then this should be reported immediately,
You will ride your cycle in a safe and responsible manner at all times and will not operate the cycle whilst unfit through drink or drugs. You will not ride on pavements or footpaths, unless it is signed telling you may do so. You will only cycle on roads or designated cycle routes from the Travel Telford Cycling map supplied. No mountain biking trails are allowed. You will be courteous to motorists and other road users, especially horses. You will start braking early in poor weather conditions, such as rain, mud etc. You will control your speed carefully, especially on all down hills or descents and do NOT RACE. You will not skid the tyres on braking.
You understand and accept that SHROPSHRE RAFT TOURS LTD advises the wearing of cycle helmets at all times when riding and a helmet will be provided.
The hirer agrees they are responsible for all cycles and equipment hired and it is your responsibility to keep the same safe from damage, loss or theft, use it in a proper manner and not subject it to any misuse or unfair wear and tear.
The bike and any other hire equipment should be kept in your possession at all times, however, should you need to lock the bike, with the lock supplied, you should ensure the bike is always locked to a fixed object . The method of securing should include the front wheel and the frame. Even when locked it is the hirers responsibility to protect the welfare of the bike and/or equipment and not leave unattended for extended periods of time. Theft of an unlocked bicycle will be the responsibility of the hirer and will be subject to charge to cover the replacement of the bicycle and its accessories.
SHROPSHIRE RAFT TOURS LTD reserves the right not to hire equipment to an individual.
Maximum weight for the bikes is 17.5 stone (111kg). Minimum age on a bike is 14 years. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Minimum age to hire is 18.
Clients booking by telephone will be deemed to have read and accepted these terms and conditions which can be seen on our website or online booking page.
PLEASE NOTE: As a security deposit for any of our ‘for hire’ services, we require a photo ID, ie driving licence or passport for each booking which our kiosk employee will safely retain for the duration of the hire period. If you do not bring the necessary documents required on the day we reserve the right to cancel your booking with no refund given.
We also email you a Trip advisor feedback form to fill in which take 2 minutes of your time. We will also periodically email you with details of our up to date discounts.
We reserve the right to make amendments to these terms and conditions without notice.
